We wear Red and we wear Black , we are born to attack as the cherries go marching along
Surprisingly I dont dream about fooball much.
When I do its the 8th of January 1984, being young again and standing in the old ,long demolished , south end of Dean Court. Along with thousands of others I am bouncing up and down scarf tied to my wrist .On the hour we have just scored to take the lead. Then Ian Thompson picks up Bryan Robson's poor clearance in the Manchester United box and scores. Its 2-0 to the cherries and United are getting giant killed from the FA Cup. As I look across, a young Harry Rednapp is jumping for joy from our bench.
Am I the only person in the world who dreams of something that really happened!!!
I dont love AFC Bournemouth. Its more than that ........... its less than that.......... AFC Bournemouth are part of my lifeforce. Even when times are hard and wins are rare I am a Cherry. I dont know how not to be. My earliest memories are of being made to shout out "up the cherries" from my pushchair each time we passsed this strange building in the corner of the Park. I was 9 when I went to my first game with my grandad (the ex Australian pro-player Eric Weeks), we beat Crystal Palace 4-3 and a player with a rocket for a right foot called Billy Coxon hit the winner through the net and the ball sailed into the lad next to me. I was hooked.
Now under a Russian billionaires ownership we are looking like having good times again. This summer we have already been out and signed Rotherhams top striker Louis Grabham , we have bought back striker Josh McQuaid from Millwall and we already have the clubs record ever signing locally born striker Matt Tubbs who cost three quaters of a million from Crewley last spring.
With the latest news I post below I can confidently predict that Nomads are not going to be the only side who say to opponents next year , you score three , well score four.
AFC Bournemouth have confirmed that FC Utrecht striker Frank Demouge will join the club on a free transfer. The 29 year old Dutch striker has agreed a two year contract with the Cherries and the deal will be officially completed next month subject to the completion of a medical.
6ft 3in Demouge, came through the youth system at Nijmegen Eendracht Combinatie, before moving on to FC Eindhoven, FC Den Bosch and Willem II Tilburg before moving to Eredivisie side FC Utrecht in August 2010, initially on loan before making the move permanent last summer.
Cherries Boss Paul Groves says:
'Frank has scored goals in a top Dutch league, he is experienced and he knows the game, He has lots of good attributes that I think will help the football club progress and cause teams problems.' 'We've had to sell the football club and the vision of the football club, We've had to sell the ambition and we've done a lot of long, hard work behind the scenes to attract Frank to the club because he is already playing at a good level now.
'But he wants to try a different challenge, he liked the feel of the football club and the area...'
Maybe next years dreams will be about the championship and beyond.
