Championships arnt won in August but they can be lost in September. Hopefully this result can help us to learn some important truths quickly. If we learn these lessons we might even be better for it come May.
Flint did well last night and caught us out with very good staff work from those who had us watched. We were undone before kick off by the combined psychological factors of their heavy defeat at Rhyl and our easy win over Penycae.Their switch of formation certainly caught us out. We must learn from this. We have to establish ourselves into a game before we spring forward to win it. Gary is a marked man and he will need to find inner discipline quickly. Flint were in the referees ear from kick off about "Watch the centre forward". He was kicked and poked off the ball , subject to heavy tackles from behind that went unpunished. The writing was on the wall for him in the 40th minute when he was hacked down mercilessly from behind and all that happened was he got a final warning from the ref for complaining about it.
Many of us were very upset by the barrage of intimidation from Flint to the referee as the teams came out for the second half. An orchestrated campaign that Gary fell into with an unecessary challenge on the keeper. This will happen every week, only Gary can deal with it.
There were some positives ; Ben Alston and Ben Collins did well and Michael Robinson was our man of the match. We will be a much more restrained outfit at Llandudno on Friday and we will build a platform into the game before we push on.
Dont start to worry just yet. With Mark and Jay in charge and players like Tigger and Danny in the side we will have many more good days than bad.
